The Heart of the Matter

Professor Randolph has been more than well-served by his art director. The cover is spectacular and speaks volumes. I am not an academic, but interested in the subject from a variety of perspectives. If the professor was well-served by his art talent, I believe his editors could have been
more influential is making the text less erudite. Having said that, the irony is that in many places, the text overworks the obvious--yes, small boxes are meant for small things, for example.
This work is so earnest, it is difficult to be critical. However, I do wish that something which has so much heart--did not have some of the heart taken out of it in the text. The objects and art discussed in the book speak volumes by themselves. It is a brilliant concept.

Touchingly beautiful

Touchingly beautiful and completely inspiring - the whole idea of this book, but sadly I totally agree with another reviewer. In fact I came to the reviews to see if anyone felt the same as me. I am not an academic, but nor am I lacking in English language skills and yet with this book I am into a dictionary almost constantly. I think the editor did no service to this divine book. Clearly the writer has enormous knowledge and word skill but I have friends in Italy who I would love to recommend it to, but I know that much of it would be incomprehensible. It is beautiful to write a book for peers, but such a shame when it limits the pleasure of those whose English might be less and yet the content of this book is so special. I thoroughly recommend the concepts and the book, but just be aware that it is not an easy read. It is worth the hard work.
