For most of the year green is the predominant color when painting landscapes (at least here in Britain). In winter this changes and a wider palette presents itself to the artist, together with some different challenges. Here is a book dedicated to taking the mystery out of painting winter landscapes. There are some lovely subjects in here that will make artists want to seize the nearest brush. Trees in late autumn, studies of mountains and farms and my favorite showing early spring daffodils by a lonely house on a country road. Before you get to all that the author has some useful tips on what to buy; not only for painting purposes but to get kitted up to go out into the weather and sketch. What to pack, what to wear and how you can record the essence of a scene without staying out too long and catching a chill are all covered, as well as indoor sketching from photographs. In true Search Press style there are four projects in here to tackle complete with lists of what you need and staged photographic instructions. There are also tips on various aspects of winter landscape painting; how to get various effects, colors to use, drawing trees, figures, animals etc as well as snow. Bellamy Delivers Excellent Training

DavidBellamy's "Winter Landscapes" is a great aid to the watercolorist, no matter what level. In this book, he addresses landscapes, that in his words, are "not overwhelmed with green". An yet many of the illustrations discussed are not pure "winter" ether. I especially like his renderings of bare trees, and that was one of the reason's I bought the book -- and am not disappointed. The book addresses many scenes, has 4 in depth demonstrations, and other step-by-step techniques, including many varities of snow scenes. No matter what the season one may want to paint, I know one can take away usesful techniques for trees, ground cover, skies, and so on. I'm happy to have this book as an addition to my library.

So glad I bought it!

Beautiful book! It's one of the few I've found on painting winter landscapes. David Bellamy's instructions are very clear and easy to follow. He gives a number of tips I haven't seen in other books, such as his techniques for painting winter trees. Living in a northern state I intend to utilize it quite a bit for instructions in painting winter scenes but also enjoy simply browsing through the book, looking at his pictures, and reading it as I enjoy a cup of tea.

I was initially drawn to this book by the cover alone, but the variety of color expression within the book has exposed me to many more possibilities for painting winter scenes. The author offers several step-by-step paintings that were also helpful.
