My name is Bryan Nowak. Photography has been a life-long passion for but has taken on even greater significance as I’ve grown older and appreciate more deeply the beauty that God graces me with daily. From His majestic mountains to the daintiest flower His creation sings out glorious praise. I hear it in the gentle breezes and the rustling grasses. I hear nature’s song in the birds of the air and the crashing of the waves. Capturing this visually is my heart’s desire so that you too may see the wonder of creation, but more importantly the magnificence of the Creator. I live in northeast Georgia where I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, Sharon. She and I share the same love for God, nature, hiking, travel and photography. I have three godly children – Kristen, Terri and Kevin – who have married spouses with similar faith convictions. I am also presently blessed with three beautiful grandchildren and a fourth on the way. While my professional career began in the field of computers and technology, including 22 years with NCR Corporation, I have been serving the Lord in full-time vocational Christian ministry since 2001. Photography is my passion after faith and family.

Since our family owns a time share in the Gatlinburg area, I have been to Cades Cove often. The place is magical and unlike any other - so it seems like "going home" year after year. Photographer Bryan Nowak has captured the beauty of every season in this incredible book of amazing photos. Suggested techniques and locations for taking one's own photographs included in the book have me anticipating even more my annual summer trip!

If you have been to Cades Cove and know the breathtaking beauty firsthand, this book will be a favorite. If you have never been, this book will cause you to get busy real quick - packing your luggage with camera in hand!

Buy this book! You will thank God for this amazing place known as Cade's Cove and for the gift of Nowak's latest artistic offering!

Disappointing

I agree completely with DirkOX's review that these are very ordinary photos, printed poorly. He wrote that they look like they were printed on an inkjet, and I would add on cheap paper. There is no publisher noted anywhere, and the last page says it was made on Feb 1, 2016, which is when I ordered it. .???
Many photos are not in sharp focus, even the large cover photo which wraps around front and back covers. As written about another one of Mr. Nowak's photo guides, this is not a book for photographers.
Also, the multiple 5 star reviews are suspiciously similar in style and content, all written over a short period of time just after the book came out. Hmmmm...

I cant share the excitement of the other reviewers here. The locations aren't that exciting at all and the quality of the photos do not meet the standards you might expect from a professional. I was quite disapointed when I saw the print quality of the book itself. The photos look like as if someone printed them with an inkjet printer. I m giving 2 stars because the books are cheap.

The video that came with the package is awesome. I have no reservations about doing this project ...

After checking out some of the reviews on similar books, I did not
have very high expectations for this book. The price made me a little
apprehensive as well. However, I ordered it anyhow. Once I received
this information package, all I can say is Wow, this guy really knows
his stuff! He covers way more details than what I expected. The video
that came with the package is awesome. I have no reservations about
doing this project now that I have seen the step by step break down.
I can even call Gene if I have a question or if I need help! Gene
definitely over delivers in his package and I feel I got way more
than my moneys worth. If you're thinking about building a spa or hot
tub, you should definitely get this book!

Don't hesitate... IF YOU WANT A SPA and want to save $$$$$, buy these books!!!

First off kudos to Gene Trumbull for all his efforts to help save each person buying his books THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS building their own spa! The information he outlines can take anybody; including complete novices from dream to reality. The information is not written in journeymen language, but is written in such a way that everybody can understand with easy to follow illustrations as well. If this is still not enough, Gene is just a phone call away and is very helpful and patient to walk you through each and every question.

Even if you want to go “outside the box” and do something not specifically mentioned in his books, because of his vast knowledge in building spas and swim spas, he has the ability to envision your ideas and is willing to listen and evaluate the merits of your ideas. This type of customer service and personal consultation is unheard of in the “how to” world of books where the “experts” usually only want you to do things their way or no way. I have found Gene very helpful to coach or bounce my ideas off of.

I personally have a lot of experience in building, plumbing and electrical and was just looking for sourcing some hard to find parts for my swim spa, but after finding The Master Spa Builder, Gene Trumbull, I decided that the small price of buying his books and video would save me time and money. This way I figured, don’t reinvent the wheel. So whether you are a complete novice or a seasoned veteran, building a spa with the help of these books and video will be well worth the money you spend. Plus if you're needing parts you won’t have to worry if what you find will work, buy from him because he’s already used all the parts, pumps, fittings and knows what will work and last. He is THE MAN with the plan. You won’t be disappointed.

Make every capture priceless

There is so much one can learn from this book. If you are a beginner in photography then this will answer the basic things you need to know to really get familiarized with your DSLR camera, use its features correctly, and how to eventually capture the right image you want like a pro. Here you can also find out the common mistakes that a photographer may commit that can ruin a possible perfect photograph. The author makes sure that you don't need to be a pro to understand each topics discussed in this book since he really went into details but didn't put too much complexities with the explanation. Absolutely a great book!

Photography 101-A Must read!

As an amateur photographer, this was a great book that serves as a user manual for photography. The author goes into the basics of the camera (shutter speed, aperture, etc.), composition rules/techniques, using lens and filters, as well as so much more. I was impressed with how much value was in this book and how much I learned even after knowing the basics already. Will be referencing back to this book often as I continue to improve my photography.

Crystal clear

I was impressed by this book. Put simply, it is a crystal clear guide on how to take landscape shots. The author takes you by the hand from initial conception, through planning and taking the shot, and comploetion afterwards. There is lots of information here, but because the author's style is as clean as a whistle, it is never confusing. While the book instructs you on how to plan and take the shot, and what sort of issues you need the think about, what I like is that it will never tread on your artistic toes. As the author explains, the best landscape shots are created, and you are the creator. This book will give you a lucid framework to structure the creative process without interfering with it. Highly recommended.

Makes planning the whole process, from getting an idea for a picture right through to perfecting the final product, clear-cut and easy to follow. Some gorgeous photos by the author illustrate beautifully the points being made, and the smart graphics help you follow the logical steps of the 'pyramid'. Really motivating stuff!

Full of good tips and a great value

This is a great book. The content is nicely organized and sprinkled with useful tips, even for incorporating non-camera tools such as Google Earth and smartphones into your photography. I found the author's case studies particularly helpful. The book is also an easy and quick read, making it a very good value at this price.

About the Author
Joseph Kerman was a leading musicologist, music critic, and music educator from the 1950s into the 2000s. He conceived Listen together with his wife, Vivian Kerman, and was its original author. From his first book, Opera as Drama (1956), to his last, Opera and the Morbidity of Music (2008), including studies of Bach, Beethoven, William Byrd, concertos, and more, Kerman reshaped our understanding and appreciation of Western Classical music. He was long a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, where he served two terms as chair of the Music Department.

Gary Tomlinson did the same at the University of Pennsylvania before he moved to Yale University in 2011, where he is now the John Hay Whitney Professor and Director of the Whitney Humanities Center. A former MacArthur Fellow, he has authored books on Claudio Monteverdi, Renaissance musical culture, opera, and the singing rituals of the Aztecs and Incas. His latest book, 1,000,000 Years of Music, describes the evolutionary emergence of music.

Teaching was the heart and soul of Kerman’s musical career, and it remains such in Tomlinson’s. Between them, their wide-ranging course offerings have encompassed harmony and ear-training, opera, world music, popular music, interdisciplinary studies, seminars in music history, criticism, and anthropology and—many times over—Introduction to Music for non-majors.

Tomlinson and Kerman worked together on five editions of Listen. Joseph Kerman died early in 2014, just shy of his 90th birthday, as this edition went to press.
