About the Author
Deirdre Arntz has a certificate in wetland science from the University of Washington, a master's in anthropology from San Francisco State and a BA in political science from Boston College. She is a writer and a member of the Audubon Society, a former board member of Seattle Audubon and former chair of that groups nationally recognized Washington Wetlands Network. She has also served as a board member of the Washington Environmental Council.

The Backstory to the Natural History of Washington

What a revelation! We are so lucky in Washington state to have had these watchdogs and workhorses behind the scenes saving our state. The concept for the book was brilliant, but these histories are seldom recorded. Every state should have such a historian and history.

This book gave me the inside story on each of these extraordinary women; providing personal history and the force behind their determination to succeed in their quest to clean up our environment, establish a higher standard of care and provide continued protection for all things in nature. I enjoyed it too for its reminders of the history of the women's movement. I highly recommend it for audiences young and old.
