Sit up straight and put both feet on the floor was pretty much the entire paragraph

WOW! What a joke! My daughter was excited to get this and then we opened the box. Three of the cartridges were punctured but still the excitement remained. Then we opened the book. 12 pages total. Two pages have letter examples on them. The other 10 pages contain one paragraph each translated into four languages. One page told you how to sit. Sit up straight and put both feet on the floor was pretty much the entire paragraph; oh and lean slightly forward. The next page told you to hold the pen at 45 degrees (the way you normally hold a pen).
OK, so at least she got some pens and ink......EXCEPT.....when you put a cartridge into the pen and screw the tip (nib) on the pen body, the cartridge is supposed to be trapped and punctured by the tip. Only the cartridge is too short to be pierced by the nib, so it just slides back and forth. We followed the directions in the book (not much direction) and I even had three people at work try it. Bottom line, don't waste your money or time on this one!

Great starter set

I used to do calligraphy as a teenager, so now that I have a teenage daughter, I thought we might enjoy doing it together. This is a nice beginner set with a good variety of colors and tips. I didn't have any broken or leaking ink cartridges as some others did. Everything was intact.
But as others have mentioned, the ink cartridge is way to small for the length of the barrel, so it does NOT pierce the cartridge (as the instructions say it will). It literally just rolls up and down in the barrel. So I had to manually hold the cartridge and push it onto the nib. Surprisingly, I didn't get any ink leaking on my hands or the cartridge.
When practicing with the different tips, I experienced good ink flow and a smooth writing. However, it is going to take a lot of practice to get back to where I was years ago. To help me and my beginner daughter, we used the Studio Series Calligraphy Paper Pad (set of 50 heavyweight sheets) which has angled lines.
I received this product in exchange for an honest and unbiased review, and my opinions are based on our actual user experience. This set is working well for us, aside from the cartridge issue that you have to work around.
