As the description states " this book opens the door to real-life drumming skills and provides the tools essential in succeeding as a working drummer."
Nice description, but yet, it's just as similar to the Drumming Bible.
The only difference is the play-alongs included with the styles. Which is highly beneficial.
This is book however, does not describe how to market yourself -- "become more marketable"
It does not describe how to get the gigs and the ways of going about it... --"get real world gigs"
It only provides different styles to get you through situations where you might need to know a particular styles of drumming -- "provides the tools essential in succeeding as a working drummer."

A very well thought out book containing many dance and musical styles. This tome will define prepare you to be a working drummer in various venues-one magnificent stand out for me was something called the "stripper" dance. As a female drummer, I had a "hoot" learning that particular groove. Mullowney presents some other unique grooves as well ( ie., the Krupa groove from Sing, Sing, Sing). What made this book unique was the presentation of Big Band charts at the end of the book. My favorite part of the book were the personal trainer exercises 1 and 2 for the snare drum as it is always handy to have a short snare etude or two to draw from your arsenal when needed. If I were a teacher and had to grade this book, I would give it an A+

A Working Drummer

This book goes over virtually every single style that you will encounter in the working world of a drummer. Each style is transcribed with contemporary songs listed so that you can hear them being applied to real music. Each rhythm is described and rated depending on how often it is used in the real world. The C.D. is also helpful and includes backing tracks so that most of these drum beats can be applied. There also helpful tips and hints written in this book that drummers from any skill level can benefit off of. I recommend this book to any drummer who wants broaden their knowledge of styles or anyone who wants to make a living playing the drums.
