Seeing the world with fresh eyes.

In “Responding,” accomplished sculptress, Bernice Strawn, displays bold and colorful arrangements of sticks, weathered wood, and castaway pieces of last-century detritus to create compelling testimonies to imagination.
Her friend and “Responding” collaborator, Sue Mills, a self-confessed art-world neophyte, describes each of Strawn's sculptures with unabashed, well written enthusiasm, as if she really were qualified, as if she were someone other than, as she put it, “… an art “Everyman”.”
This juxtaposing of the artist's refined and matured expertise and the writer's art-world naïveté invites all who open the cover to risk their own innocent explorations of what they see.
“The artist,” Bernice says, “should resist insisting on her own interpretation of her work. The interpretation grows, extending its purpose, getting beyond what the artist thought.”
“Responding to art,” Sue counters, “is individual. Yet if we follow the threads, they weave an intricate tapestry with each response equally important to the design.”
